Saturday, April 17, 2011 - Yuri’s Night Houston 5k Fun Run/Walk and Kid’s K
This race is named in memory of the astronauts and cosmonauts who dedicated their careers to exploring space, the final frontier. Challenger Memorial Park where the race is staged is, of course, named to honor the crew who lost their lives in the tragic destruction of that shuttle.
One of the interesting things about this year’s event is that a team event was introduced, allowing the fleetest of foot to double-dip when the awards presentation was held in the pavilion.
The morning temperature was favorable to the runners. Not quite crisp, but the upper 50’s is a blessing this time of year in south Texas. I’ll take it any day!
